PRAYER AND FASTING! (transcript)

Text: Isaiah 58:6-9

There is a fast that is God's will and a fast that is merely religious, ritualistic and self righteous.
The latter type of fast is used to manipulate people and show ourselves off as better than other people.
There is a fast that God has ordained, that God has purposed and that pleases God.
The key to a successful fast is spiritual sensitivity and obedience.

Prayer and fasting is a potent way of generating power in the spirit realm.
Fasting helps us stay sensitive to God.
Fasting helps us keep the flesh under. 1 Corinthians 9:27
Fasting helps us maintain our spiritual focus.
Fasting is a type of sacrifice, and God respects our sacrifice for Him.

We fast because the Bible encourages it.
We fast because our Lord Jesus fasted and e is our focus and model.
We fast because 'man shall not live by bread  alone'. Fasting is a way of showing that food is not an 'idol' in our life (if it is a food fast we are on)
Prayer and fasting enhances our health.
Prayer and fasting are products of the Word of God, and the Word of God is health and life to us. Proverbs 4:22
Prayer and fasting brings profit into our life because prayer and fasting are godly acts. There are profit we receive in life as a result of godliness.
Man hides from God. Since Adam and Eve hid from God in Eden, human nature has been like that.
God is not trying to keep away from man.
Prayer and fasting are ways of 'showing' ourselves to God, they are a way of coming out of hiding and revealing ourselves to our creator.

Prayer gives purpose to our fasting.
Fasting disciplines us to confront the flesh and focus on Jesus Christ when it's done properly.
Prayer and fasting is most potent when it's God directed. Isaiah 58:5-12
If there is a fast God has chosen or ordained, then there is a fast that is not of God.
Fasting is effective when we forgive. Isaiah 56:3-7
Fasting is profitable when we do it to please God. Fasting is acceptable to God when done secretly and sincerely, fasting is not for public knowledge. Matthew 6:18
God is not interested in hypocritical fasting.
Fasting times should be times we choose to be selfless.
Fasting should be mixed with compassion, and should be a time we release those indebted to us.

When fasting is done the right way, God responds to our call. Isaiah 58:9
When you fast, do something for the poor. No matter how large or small.
Isaiah 58:7
Fasting may weaken your physical body but if it's done the right way it should strengthen your inner man, your spirit man.
The time we fast should be a time we spend quality time meditating in God's Word so as to hear God and receive His instructions.
The purpose of fasting is not to 'manipulate' God or man, it's not for showing off or self righteousness.
Fasting is a godly sacrifice the sons of God engage in to please their maker and for aligning themselves properly to their maker.
Our Lord Jesus had an effective prayer life, and if we are going to be more like Him, we will have to cultivate a prayer and fasting life as the Spirit of God leads us.

Your Father Hears

Matthew 6:5,6 Prayer should be directed to the Father. Jesus showed this when He taught His disciples the Lord's prayer. It should be a great comfort to you to know that the creator and God of all hears you when you pray. This should encourage you to pray and keep praying. In our day to day relationships with people our communication will reduce towards those who don't pay attention when we're talking to them. The good thing about God is that He is never distracted. Know you have His attention when you pray . He can be communicated with. He hears, He created the ears. Psalm 94:9 Jesus encouraged prayer. Matthew 26:40 Jesus taught prayer. Luke 11:1,2 If Jesus prayed, you will need to pray. Why Should You Pray? *Pray because prayer brings God's intervention. Isaiah 38:5,6 *Pray because that's how you are authorized to communicate with God. 1 Thessalonians 15:16-18 *Pray because it is a major way of birthing God's will on earth. 1 Kings 18

The Importance Of The Anointing

Acts 10:38 The anointing is the presence of the Holy Spirit with a person. The anointing speaks, the anointing directs, and the anointing teaches people what they need to know and do. 1 John 2:27 You need the anointing. You can grow in the anointing. It is also possible to depart from the anointing. The anointing won't depart from you but you can depart from the anointing. You should remain in Him. It is worth it investing time to understand the your anointing, growing in your anointing and obeying the anointing. As you get to know a person better by spending time with them, so it is with the anointing in your life. With the anointing, you can't go wrong. The anointing strategically positions you in God's kingdom and in life. Jesus was full of the Holy Spirit. Colossians 2:9 Jesus had the anointing when He was here on earth. Jesus is our example of what our life can be when we have the anointing. Hebrews 12:2 Jesus knew His purpose. Luke 2:49 Jesus

Navigating A New Year

Isaiah  42:16 Our text passage above shows us God is the one who shows us the path to take and leads us in new directions. Your path matters to God. The way you you choose to take is important to God. Your steps are seen by God and ordered by God. Psalm 37:23 The year ahead of you matters to God too. Luke 13:8-9 Each year God has given you the grace to witness, experience, and journey through is another opportunity to be fruitful for God. God wants you to make the most of the year ahead of you to His glory. Human beings do not always know the way and path to go, we can be limited in wisdom. History shows we do not always make the best choices. The year ahead of us will require knowing the way to go, having the wisdom to make the best decisions and choices. Deuteronomy 30:19 To successfully navigate the year we need to stay in God.. To navigate is to find your way through, it is following the right path to a specific destination. Car drivers either buy a GPS/Navigation device system or
