KNOWING YOUR IDENTITY

Text: Judges 6:12-14

Many of us are like Gideon in more ways than one- fearful, unsure, full of doubt, surrounded by enemies who are stronger than we are or that we feel are stronger than we are.
Like Gideon many of us have had bad experiences and we are bound by those experiences we have had, and don't know the way forward.
Like Gideon many have heard of the miracle working power of God, we have heard things God has done in the past but we are not experiencing them in the present.
Like Gideon, many of us do not know who we are and the potential we carry.
Moses was also like that. He didn't know who he was.
 Exodus 3:1-3, Exodus 4:1-14
Moses and Gideon both had doubts about who God said they were.
Both men were great men and generals in God's sight but when their call came by divine appointments they didn't feel qualified in themselves due to the low self esteem they both had.

As God in His mercy didn't leave Moses and Gideon to wallow in doubt of their identity and calling, be assured that God will not give up on you too.
If God could pick up a cowardly youth called Gideon, and changed  his self identity and self image, turning him into a judge and warrior; then there is hope for you!
If God could have raised an elderly man by the name of Moses, and made a prophet and spiritual general out of him, then there is hope for you too, irrespective of your age.

Gideon is evidence to us that irrespective of your age, naivety and youth, God can change your identity, your image, and life's direction for the better.
God can reach the young and the old like Moses and Gideon, and use them for great things.

How do you see yourself?
Do you know who you are?
When people or God speak to you  about your life's assignment, do you doubt and question it like Moses did?
Do you have an identity crisis like Moses had?
Moses doubted God's choice of appointing him because he didn't know who he is.
He focused on his limitations more than his strengths and God's enablement.

Is your identity and self image in line with what the Bible says about you?
Nobody really knows who you are, not even your parents.  Only God does!

Only God alone, knows what He put in you and his assignment for you.
Jeremiah 1:4-10
Jeremiah was another man who had issues with his identity.
He felt he was too young to do what God wanted him to do.
He felt just like Moses felt, that he wasn't a great speaker or orator.
But is God asking us to be spectacular, gifted or the most spiritual person before He calls us or uses us?
The answer is no.

From a physical perspective, Goliath was a more awesome, spectacular, and intimidating sight than David was.
Goliath had height, experience, armor and physical strength to his advantage.
David had a healthy identity and self image rooted in God as an advantage over Goliath.
1 Samuel 17:32-37, 41-47

We are loved by God and He desires to use us all in various capacities.
 Ephesians 2:10
Our identity must have it's root in God.
Just like David the shepherd boy, we must know who we are in God.
David's identity was rooted in his relationship with God, he understood he was was from the chosen race of people, the people God has a covenant with, he knew Goliath was not a covenant man.
He saw this as an advantage over Goliath, and it helped him with the battle.

Knowing who you are in Christ Jesus will put you at an advantage in life and help you overcome your battles.
God's Word tells us many things about ourselves, it makes us recognize our identity, it helps us see who we can become!
As David prevailed over Goliath by a certain insight and knowledge he had about himself, you can do the same.
You're a covenant person like David was and your challenges must fall before you like Goliath fell before David.
Isaiah 54:15-17

To experience a change of identity you will first of all need a change of nature.
A change of nature comes about by accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and savior.
2 Corinthians 5:17

Once you have Jesus in your life, like David; you are a chosen person, and you're from a nation like Israel, you are from the Kingdom of God.
 Revelation 1:6

ONCE YOU ARE BORN AGAIN YOUR IDENTITY CHANGES, YOU ARE:

1) ROYALTY- 1 Peter 2:9, Revelation 5:10
2) NEW - 2 Corinthians 5:17
3) UNPREDICTABLE - John 3:8
4) A HEIR - Romans 8:17- you have an inheritance
5) LIKE JESUS - John 20:21- you are sent
6) A SON/DAUGHTER OF GOD - John 1:12- you have God's nature
7) FAVOURED & RIGHTEOUS- Psalm 5:12, 2 Corinthians 5:21

Your Father Hears

Matthew 6:5,6 Prayer should be directed to the Father. Jesus showed this when He taught His disciples the Lord's prayer. It should be a great comfort to you to know that the creator and God of all hears you when you pray. This should encourage you to pray and keep praying. In our day to day relationships with people our communication will reduce towards those who don't pay attention when we're talking to them. The good thing about God is that He is never distracted. Know you have His attention when you pray . He can be communicated with. He hears, He created the ears. Psalm 94:9 Jesus encouraged prayer. Matthew 26:40 Jesus taught prayer. Luke 11:1,2 If Jesus prayed, you will need to pray. Why Should You Pray? *Pray because prayer brings God's intervention. Isaiah 38:5,6 *Pray because that's how you are authorized to communicate with God. 1 Thessalonians 15:16-18 *Pray because it is a major way of birthing God's will on earth. 1 Kings 18

The Importance Of The Anointing

Acts 10:38 The anointing is the presence of the Holy Spirit with a person. The anointing speaks, the anointing directs, and the anointing teaches people what they need to know and do. 1 John 2:27 You need the anointing. You can grow in the anointing. It is also possible to depart from the anointing. The anointing won't depart from you but you can depart from the anointing. You should remain in Him. It is worth it investing time to understand the your anointing, growing in your anointing and obeying the anointing. As you get to know a person better by spending time with them, so it is with the anointing in your life. With the anointing, you can't go wrong. The anointing strategically positions you in God's kingdom and in life. Jesus was full of the Holy Spirit. Colossians 2:9 Jesus had the anointing when He was here on earth. Jesus is our example of what our life can be when we have the anointing. Hebrews 12:2 Jesus knew His purpose. Luke 2:49 Jesus

Navigating A New Year

Isaiah  42:16 Our text passage above shows us God is the one who shows us the path to take and leads us in new directions. Your path matters to God. The way you you choose to take is important to God. Your steps are seen by God and ordered by God. Psalm 37:23 The year ahead of you matters to God too. Luke 13:8-9 Each year God has given you the grace to witness, experience, and journey through is another opportunity to be fruitful for God. God wants you to make the most of the year ahead of you to His glory. Human beings do not always know the way and path to go, we can be limited in wisdom. History shows we do not always make the best choices. The year ahead of us will require knowing the way to go, having the wisdom to make the best decisions and choices. Deuteronomy 30:19 To successfully navigate the year we need to stay in God.. To navigate is to find your way through, it is following the right path to a specific destination. Car drivers either buy a GPS/Navigation device system or
