Matthew 26: 14-25
There are two major things money can be to you -
1) Your servant
2) Your God
Money is one of the gods of this world to some people.
People knowingly or not worship different things in this world apart from the true God, and money is one of those 'gods'.
Satan is called the god of this world, and Satan tempts people away from the true God by raising his head in different forms and ways.
It is Satan that makes people replace God with something else in their hearts.
When something else replaces God in your heart that thing has become an idol or 'god' in our heart.
Ezekiel 14:1- 8
That's why we have to guard our heart jealously.
Proverbs 4:23
When money takes the place of God in our hearts it's called 'mammon'.
Mammon is the god of the love of money.
Matthew 6:24
Jesus said we cannot serve God and mammon at the same time.
This is the mistake of Judas Iscariot.
He wanted to eat his cake and have it, he wanted to serve the true God and mammon at the same time, and since he went against the spiritual principle of not serving two Gods at the same time, since he went against the spiritual principle of not being able to stay faithful to two masters at the same time, he faced the consequence, which wasn't pleasant and he fulfilled the prophecy of Jesus being betrayed by one of His own.
What are the lessons we can learn from Judas Iscariot's mistake?
A) Don't serve two Gods.
Matthew 6:24
B) Don't steal from Gods house/assembly.
Exodus 20:15, Ephesians 4:28
C) Don't try to play games with God or dribble God.
Galatians 6:7
D) Don't let your faults & weaknesses grow.
Mark 14:38
E) You can't use the world's wisdom to succeed in God's Kingdom.
Zechariah 11:12-13
Every time I hear or read the story of Judas Iscariot I imagine a man who thought he was faster, better, and perhaps smarter than the other disciples of Jesus.
He probably thought he recognized opportunities better than the other disciples of Jesus.
Judas Iscariot is an example of a man who is one leg in the things of God and one leg in the ways of the world.
He probably thought he was getting the best of both worlds.
He wanted the glory that comes with having a relationship with Jesus, but at the same time he wanted the deceitful riches of ungodly wealth.
Judas Iscariot learned the hard way that you can't combine kingdom principles and ungodly principles of this world.
He learned the hard way that you can't have Jesus and Satan rule your life at the same time.
Judas Iscariot discovered that you can't combine divine wisdom and sensual ungodly wisdom.
My prayer is that every Judas Iscariot mindset and way of life will depart from us.
