Matthew 2: 1-12
Magi (wise men) from the east followed the Star of Jesus and the Star successfully led them to where young Jesus was in Bethlehem.
To follow the Star of Jesus Christ is to follow Jesus Christ for Jesus is that Star!
It is a revelation and mystery!
There are lessons we can learn from the wise men from the east.
We should be wise.
Why are they called wise?
Wisdom is the principal thing.
Proverbs 4:7
God wants you wise and He's ready to supply an abundance of it to you.
James 1:5
When you ponder on the actions of these wise men who followed the Star of the Messiah, we can glean valuable insight on how we can be wise too.
Through them, we see what it means to be wise even in our day.
1. The wise men followed Jesus because of who He is- the King.
Matthew 2: 2
They didn't follow Jesus because they wanted a miracle or needed a testimony.
The followed Jesus (the Star) because they discovered who He is.
Their following Him was not motivated by personal benefit or a hidden agenda.
You can't have a revelation of Jesus Christ and not follow Him.
You cant discover who Jesus is and not follow Him.
From the Star of Jesus the wise men discovered He is the King and God.
Those who don't follow Jesus Christ don't have a revelation of Him or know who He is.
For many, they follow Jesus because they want a testimony or miracle; they follow Him to have their needs met, then they depart from Him after they've got what they want.
While we should look to the Lord to meet our needs and trust Him to take care of us, we shouldn't follow Him merely to receive from Him.
We should follow Him because He is worthy to be followed, He is our King!
Wise men follow Jesus, be wise.
2. They followed Jesus to worship Him.
Matthew 2:2
These wise men from the East followed Jesus to worship Him.
These were grown men, men old enough to be Jesus's earthly dad.
These were men who were very likely older than Joseph and Mary the mother of Jesus, when they saw Jesus they bowed down and worshipped Him.
Matthew 2:11
Imagine that for a moment!
If you see an elderly man bowing down to worship a toddler, it would make a curious, strange and perhaps weird sight.
It was the wise thing to do.
These men didn't mind, they put their pride aside and worshipped Jesus by bowing down.
You would wonder why grown men would do such a thing if you don't have a revelation of who Jesus is.
After a journey of about two and a half years following the Star, they got to where Jesus was in Bethlehem.
The distance and time it took to journey to where Jesus was shows their determination and motivation to worship Him.
There is no extent the wise are not willing to go to worship Jesus.
When you know who Jesus is and understand He is King and God, worshipping Him no longer becomes a problem or issue. It becomes a natural default state and mindset to worship Him.
Their motivation and action to worship Him proved the Magi to be wise.
3. They followed Jesus to bless Him (gift Him)
Matthew 2:11
The wise men presented gifts to Jesus.
They travelled from a far distance to bless Jesus the King!
How far are you willing to go to bless the King today?
They didn't follow Jesus to receive from Him, to change their lives, or benefit themselves; they followed Jesus to gift Him, to bless Him.
They wanted to do something for the King!
What are you going to do for Jesus Christ today?
We can gift Jesus today.
We can bless Jesus today.
When we give to the poor we are blessing Jesus.
When we give to those who are of the household of faith we are blessing Jesus.
When we give to little children, when we go out of our way to make children happy, we are blessing Jesus!
When we give to God's ministers who do His work on the earth, we are blessing Jesus!
When we go to the Lord's house- the church/Zion and present our gifts (offerings and tithes) we are blessing Jesus!
When we worship Him and praise Him, we are blessing Jesus!
Lets not ask only what God can do for us but what we can do for God.
Bless Jesus Christ today!
Follow Jesus because He is your King, follow Him to worship Him and follow Him to present Him gifts (bless Him).
