1 Samuel 17:41-49
Our text passage shows us the importance of not allowing anyone to despise us.
Goliath despised David the shepherd boy and the rest is history, he didn't live to tell the story.
David didn't allow Goliath's despising him to stop him neither should you let despisers stop you.
God thinks highly of you so don't allow anyone to despise you.
Psalm 8:3-8
God loves you, this places value on you; for this reason you must not allow anyone despise you.
John 3:16
Jesus's death was for your rising since you are his follower, for this reason you shouldn't allow anyone to despise you.
Luke 2:34
In Christ Jesus we are anointed, for this reason we should not be despised.
When a true child of God is being despised it is the anointing that is being despised.
It is a great mistake to despise or turn against an anointed person.
David's first wife Michal despised David's public dancing before the people in praise to God as the ark of God came into the city. God struck her with barrenness for despising David his anointed, she never had a child in her lifetime.
2 Samuel 6:16-23
Don't allow anyone to despise you and don't despise yourself.
Zechariah 4:10
How you feel about yourself has a lot to do with how people see you.
The children of Israel (12 spies) sent by Moses to check out the land flowing with milk and honey that their nation was to possess felt small and insignificant when they saw the giants who inhabited the land God had promised them.
The giants in that land didn't say anything to the Israelites (the twelve spies), there was no conversation but ten out of the twelve came back to Moses with a bad report while only two (Caleb and Joshua) had a positive and right view of being able to possess the land.
Ten men from the twelve spies said they were like grasshoppers in the sight of the giants.
They simply spoke what they felt not what the giants communicated.
They became like grasshoppers in the sight of those giants because they thought of themselves that way.
They despised themselves.
Despising themselves made them bring a wrong report back to Moses and the Israelites.
And God wasn't pleased with that.
Numbers 13
The Apostle Paul counseled Timothy not to allow anyone despise him for being young.
Timothy was a son to Paul in spiritual things, he was a young and single man who was leading a church.
1 Timothy 4:12
We live in a world where there's lots of bad advise from people who don't know any better.
They will tell you you're too young to take certain steps and later inform you you're too old to embark on certain journeys or achieve certain things.
Listening to people who don't know any better can rob you of your life, your achievements, and destiny.
It takes wisdom to know who to listen to and whose advise you should reject.
May God give you an abundance of wisdom.
Don't be a person who despises others.
Be the person who encourages others.
Be the one who prays for others.
Be the one who gives wise and godly counsel.
Be the one who keeps quiet if you don't have the answers.
Be the person Satan won't use to spoil other peoples chances or despise others.
The enemy (Satan) doesn't appear to people physically in most cases, he often works behind the scene using people to carry out his agenda.
Being despised can be one of the tricks/tactics of the enemy to try and stop you.
Go for wisdom for it is fools that despise wisdom.
