Numbers 21:5-10
If you look to Jesus Christ you will live.
If you look to the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross you will make it.
Moses made a bronze serpent.
Serpents represent wisdom.
The Bible informs us to be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.
Matthew 10:16
The bronze serpent Moses made was symbolic of Jesus being sacrificed on the cross.
Moses made the bronze serpent and put it on a pole, he did so according to God's instruction.
The serpent was made from bronze because bronze is symbolic of that which is hard and difficult, it refers to the hardship Jesus would face for our sake and the excruciating pain He would endure for our sakes.
As the children of Israel received healing in the wilderness from fiery snake bites when they looked to the bronze serpent on the pole that Moses made, we also receive healing by looking to what Jesus did for us on the cross.
Hebrews 12:2
The bronze serpent on a pole was God's medicinal remedy for the condition the children of Israel were in, in the wilderness.
The death of Jesus on the cross is our medicinal remedy for the sickness, illness, and diseases that can come upon people in their life's journey.
The Man is Jesus for Jesus called Himself "the son of man"
Jesus is also called the last Adam and Adam was a man
John 3:14, 1 Corinthians 15:45
The serpent of Moses (bronze serpent) on the pole was a shadow of Jesus on the cross.
It was prophetic.
The children of Israel looked to that bronze serpent and were healed from snake bites while in the wilderness.
When we look to what Jesus did for us on the cross and appropriate it in faith we are healed from the bites of the 'snakes of life'
By the stripes of Jesus we were healed!
Isaiah 53:5
There is healing power in what Jesus did on the cross and what He suffered.
The pole the bronze serpent was placed on represents the cross Jesus was to hang on.
The pole Moses hung the bronze serpent on was wooden, the cross Jesus was crucified on was wooden for it is called a tree,
Galatians 3:13
Jesus said, "as Moses lifted up the bronze snake, so the Son of Man must be lifted up"
John 3:14
Jesus was lifted up on the cross.
Today, that act of crucifixion draws men to Jesus Christ.
Jesus was lifted up at His resurrection too.
The tomb He was in is empty, death has been denied!
The victory of Jesus- the lifting up and the resurrection of Jesus is what Easter is about, and should be about.
The giving of chocolate easter bunnies is a good gesture, the giving of easter cards is a kind gesture, and the giving of easter eggs too.
However, there is more to easter than that.
Easter is a celebration of the work of the Holy Spirit for without the resurrection there would be no easter celebrations.
Romans 8:11
We need to know and get closer to God's Spirit.
The cross is a pivotal, focal point of Christianity.
The cross demonstrates the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18
The cross demonstrates the love of God.
What was a means of torture, fear, judgement, and shame, God in His wisdom took it and used it to represent His faith, His love, His sacrifice, His passion, and the freedom given to us.
