Matthew 5:16, John 8:12, Matthew 5:14-16
Light is a very interesting phenomenon.
Light is a very useful and valuable resource to have in life.
Physically and spiritually, light is useful.
Jesus described His followers as the light of the world.
If we, who claim to be Christians are the light of the world in this generation, then it's worth understanding what Jesus meant by His followers and the church being a city on the hill that cannot be hidden.
We need to understand what Jesus meant when He said 'I am the light of the world and whoever has Me will not stumble in darkness'
To fully understand and value light we need to understand what darkness is.
Darkness, spiritually speaking is symbolic of evil, negativity, Satan's Kingdom, ignorance, mistakes, stumbling, wickedness, and a lack of vision or foresight.
Light is the spiritual opposite of everything darkness is.
Light represents good, positiveness, God's Kingdom, being informed, accuracy, standing firm, goodness, vision, foresight and counsel and so on.
Light is too important to be ignored in our Christian faith and life journey.
As a ministry, our mandate is "teaching God's Word and spreading God's Light"
We see light is mentioned over and over again in the Bible.
What Does The Bible Show Us about Light?
1) The Life in us is referred to as light.
You have been given a shiny life that glows to the glory of God.
We are meant to glow to His glory. John 1:4-5
2) The Kingdom we are in is a Kingdom of light - 1 Peter 2:9, Colossians 1:13
3) The Word of God is referred to as light - Psalm 119:105
4) The path of God's people is referred to as a light - Proverbs 4:18
5) Our spiritual armour is an armour of light - Philippians 6:11-18
6) Prophecy is referred to as light - 2 Peter 1:19
Jesus's coming was preceeded by written and spoken prophecy. Matthew 2:5, 14, 17, 23
Prophecy is so important that the Bible says we shouldn't neglect it. 1Thessalonians 5:20
Prophecy builds up, inspires us and directs us.
Prophecy answers to a spiritual gift. 1 Corinthians 12:10
It's either you have the gift or you don't.
Since it's a gift you can ask for it. 1 Corinthians 12:31
