Matthew 21: 42-44
Our text passage is part of a statement Jesus made at a time He was here in human form which gives us some insights into the kingdom of God.
Jesus and His kingdom are one.
Just as a man and his wife are one in God's sight so is Jesus and His kingdom.
You cannot separate them.
Wherever Jesus shows up, the kingdom of God is there and wherever Jesus is the kingdom is there.
Both Jesus and His kingdom are likened to stones!
Living stones!
Stones have many uses- for building/construction, artwork, as a weapon, as a hunting tool with catapults etc
Jesus is useful so is His kingdom.
Those of us who become part of God's kingdom are useful too, for we are stones too, living stones who are part of God's building, God's kingdom!
1 Peter 2:5
A stone is a part of a rock or mountain, a small part.
To reject the kingdom of God is to reject Jesus, to reject Jesus is to reject the kingdom of God.
The new Jerusalem, which is the physical manifestation of God's kingdom is likened to a bride prepared for her groom on her wedding day.
Revelation 22:2
We become a part of the new Jerusalem, the kingdom of God through Jesus Christ.
Being in the kingdom makes us a part of the bride!
A wife is part of the husband and the husband and his wife are one.
Being of the kingdom makes us one with Christ!
The kingdom of God is referred to as a mysterious stone that grew into a rock or mountain which filled the whole earth.
Because the kingdom of God is a stone that is alive, this stone grows!
It grows in influence, size and impact!
It becomes global.
Daniel 2:34,34
We see from the scriptures that the kingdom of God can strike.
The kingdom of God striking means the kingdom of God can attack, fight, and destroy.
In Daniel 2 we see God's kingdom likened to a stone which smote king Nebuchadenezzer's image in a dream Nebuchadenezzer had and Daniel explained.
Nebuchadenezzer's image which has parts of different substances representing different kingdoms or empires of the earth came down in total ruins because it was struck by the stone which is God's kingdom.
No one fights the kingdom of God and wins and the kingdom of God does not fight a thing or person and that person prevails.
Toughness, strength and durability are qualities stones have and which the kingdom of God possesses.
Stones can become powerful weapons which can hurt or kill depending on how they are used.
Such is the kingdom of God!
David killed a skillful warrior giant called Goliath with a stone!
1 Samuel 17:49
That was David bringing the kingdom of God or bringing Jesus Christ against Goliath!
When you bring the kingdom of God against your enemies they can't win.
Like a powerful weapon Jesus Christ and the kingdom of God works as a killing stone, like the stone that killed Goliath.
Jesus Christ is in the believer, the kingdom of God is in the believer.
Luke 17:21
Within the believer/new creation is the winning stone.
Jesus Christ is the Stone.
Though rejected, He became the head, the chief!
1 Peter 2:7
Jesus is a stone or rock of offense to many.
It was prophesied at his christening/dedication of Jesus in the temple.
Luke 2:34
When Saul who became Apostle Paul came against Jesus by attacking and troubling the church, Jesus made it clear to him on the Damascus road that "he was kicking against the pricks/thorns"
Acts 9:5
Saul was hurting himself.
Those who come against the church, the anointed, the chosen, the people of God are hurting themselves!
