Exodus 20:3-6
Idols produce vanity and lead to emptiness.
Idols in our life come about by deception basically.
Anyone can have an idol in his/her life.
An idol is anything we have a preference for over God.
An idol is a thing we prefer to give our time, attention, and strength to over a relationship with God.
There's idolatry which is the form of worship given to a graven image, a carved image, a bowing down to an idol.
God frowns at this.

An idol is anything we enjoy more than the presence of God.
There are idols that are outright evil and there are idols that are not evil in themselves but have become sinful to the individuals who have them because they have been prioritized over God.
An example of this is money, when money takes the place of the love of God in the human heart it becomes an idol to that heart.
1 Timothy 6:10
Idols can come into our heart through misplaced priorities, the strength of the flesh, the lure of this world, and our human weakness.
Idols are a matter of the heart, whether it's the bowing down before images or an altar or the secret idols we adore/worship in our hearts.
Proverbs 4:23
Anything can be an idol- a church, a denomination, a religion, a pastor, celebrities, television, music, money, lust for the opposite sex, magazines and books, cars, institutions, education, family, careers, the internet/browsing, mobile phones, your job, drugs, and even yourself.
Anything you depend on, derive satisfaction from, and trust in the place of God is an idol.
Most things we are addicted to are idols.
Some Pastors have made the rich and wealthy in the churches they pastor their idols.
Some others have made their ministry partners idols.
Human morality does not impress God.
Isaiah 64:6
Morality has become an idol to some people.
Just like the Pharisees of old they seem to have it together to the praise of people and they are so focused on impressing people, it's a mental and outward packaging that doesn't impress God.
Idols are the enemy's attempts in our lives to make God jealous.
Exodus 34:14
Idols will not and do not satisfy.
They don't improve our lives or give lasting satisfaction.
If anything, they waste our time, they lead to snares and vanity.
Ecclesiastes 1:2
Most people have idols in their lives and don't know it or recognize it.
Sports has become an idol to many sport fans.
Gisting and gossiping have become idols for many people, they enjoy them more than prayer and spending time with God.
Physical exercise, the attempt to attain physical perfection has become an idol for some men and ladies.
Clubbing and a partying lifestyle has become an idol for many.

God is our help who fixes the misplaced priorities of our soul and heart.
