Luke 18:1-8
The times we are in calls for faith.
We are in times where there is a lot of tension, anxiety, fear, challenges, and uncertainty in the world and with individuals.
We will not be wrong to believe we are in a 'dark' time in the world.
Matthew 24:3-14
In darkness, light is needed.
In these times, faith is light in a dark world.
We have a responsibility to keep faith alive.
In times like this many will give up on God.
In times like these, many will also come to God.
Hold on to your faith.
Revelation 3:11
Maintain your place in faith.
This is not the time to give up.
We have to hold on to the faith we were given and that we have been growing over time.
Romans 12:3
Keep faith alive!
You can give up on your faith, it's possible.
You can neglect your faith, it's possible.
Unfortunately, many who are already in the faith will do so.
1 Timothy 4:1
Don't neglect your faith, keep faith alive.
Jesus asked a very important question - "when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?
Luke 18:8
For Jesus Christ to ask this question, it means true faith will be rare.
So what is true faith?
Jesus shared a parable in Luke 18 before asking His question
That parable shows us or reveals to us what true faith is.
From this parable of the widow and the judge, we can glean nuggets on faith.
The widow displayed faith.
9 points of true faith from Luke 18:1-8
1) True faith is persistent faith.
the widow was very persistent, she didn't give up until she got what she wanted.
2) True faith doesn't give in to natural circumstances.
the widow could have given up if she was looking at natural or situational circumstances.
3) True faith knows the eventual outcome.
the widow must have know that with each effort she was making, although she wasn't getting what she wanted immediately she was getting closer to getting her wish granted.
4) True faith brings the intended result.
the widow got her result, her expectation, her manifestation as she wanted it from the judge
5) True faith takes steps, it doesn't remain dormant.
the widow took steps to get what she wanted, faith takes steps towards a goal, a purpose, an aim, a target
6) True faith is anchored in God.
it is a parable on prayer, persistence in prayer. Faith is seen through prayer. You won't pray to a God you do not believe in
7) True faith thinks, it reasons its way out.
the widow didn't go to a carpenter for justice, a pilot, or anyone who wasn't in a position to help her. She went to a judge who could help her. She reasoned/thought right
8) True faith can make people change their mind about you for the better.
just as the widow needed the help and favor of the judge to get what she needed, you will also need the favor of people who are in positions to make decisions over your matter.
People can choose to change their minds about you for the better because of the faith at work in you.
9) True faith is praying faith
the parable starts by saying men ought to pray and not to faint, prayer shows you have faith. You can't separate faith from your prayer life.
