Daniel 1: 17-20
It is in the human nature to want to stand out, to desire to be successful, to wish to make progress and achieve our goals.
This desire is not bad, it is a nature God put in man.
Distinction was a glory humanity was designed to have among God's creation originally before Adam and Eve messed up.
Genesis 1:26-28
Some people think earning more academic qualifications, getting married, becoming a millionaire, investing their money, changing their partners or spouses, or hanging around the rich and famous is what will give them the satisfaction of being distinguished.
Proverbs 14:12
While most of these things are not bad, they do not necessarily distinguish us in life.
Our relationship with God is the key to our distinction.
Psalm 91:14
When God created the first man and woman, they were created distinguished.
They stood out among all of God's creation and had the blessing and mandate to rule and dominate everything on earth.
At that time, they were in perfect relationship with their creator and they enjoyed His love and blessing.
Unfortunately many people leave out the God factor in their pursuit of success and distinction.
Deuteronomy 8:10,11
God is the only one who can give you that extra factor needed to stand out in your generation.
It may be a gift, a talent, an ability, or an opportunity.
James 1:17
God is the one who orchestrates things in our favor and opens doors no man can open for us or shut.
Romans 8:28
God gives us what we need to succeed and stand out, and He also presents the opportunity or platform for us to use what He's given us.
Revelation 3:8
In the Bible we see different people God distinguished in their different generations:
For Daniel, God gave Him the opportunity to serve in the administration of 4 different kings who promoted and honored him.
For Joseph, God gave Him a unique ability to interpret dreams and God opened the 'door' of promotion for Joseph to use His gift before Pharaoh.
For King David God gave Him might and wisdom to fight.
Warfare brought him to distinction.
God gives gifts to His children, God is the one who distinguishes!
